General practice & day rooms

Unhurried appointments, usually within the same week

Firstlight Cove Clinic runs four focused care lanes with longer consulting slots, so there is time to examine, explain and plan before you leave the room.

Before you arrive

What to bring

Five minutes of preparation usually saves a second visit.

  • Your current medicines. Boxes, inhalers or a printed list — strengths matter more than names.
  • Recent results or letters. Bloods, imaging or a discharge summary from the last twelve months.
  • A short timeline. When the problem started, what changes it, and what you have already tried.
  • Loose layers for skin and chest visits. Examination is easier without fitted sleeves or high collars.
  • Your questions, written down. We work through the list rather than rushing the last one.

Arriving ten minutes early lets reception complete your record before the slot starts, which keeps the consulting time for the consultation.

Care lanes

Four lanes, so you can book the right room first time

Each lane has its own slot length, nurse support and follow-up pattern. Pick the closest match on the request form — reception will move you if another lane fits better.

Lane 01

Family medicine

Everyday general practice for adults and children, including ongoing conditions that need steady review rather than one-off visits.

  • New symptoms, infections and injuries
  • Blood pressure, thyroid and diabetes review
  • Repeat prescriptions with a medicines check
  • Referral letters and results explained in plain language

20 min slot · 40 min first visit

Lane 02

Respiratory & allergy

For coughs that outstay their welcome, breathlessness on the hill, and seasonal reactions that keep returning.

  • Spirometry and inhaler technique coaching
  • Asthma and COPD action plans written with you
  • Skin-prick testing for common airborne triggers
  • Winter clinic slots held for same-week assessment

40 min slot · testing on site

Lane 03

Skin clinic

Dermatoscopy and minor procedures in a dedicated room, including mapped checks for anyone with many moles.

  • Single-lesion checks and full mole mapping
  • Eczema, acne and rosacea management plans
  • Minor removals under local anaesthetic
  • Late Wednesday list for working hours

30 min slot · 50 min for mapping

Lane 04

Travel & vaccination

Routine immunisation plus itinerary-based travel advice, timed so courses finish before you fly.

  • Childhood and adult schedule catch-up
  • Seasonal influenza and pneumococcal cover
  • Travel risk review by route and season
  • Saturday morning list for the whole household

15 min slot · 30 min for travel advice

How it works

From request to follow-up

No waiting rooms full of guesswork. Here is exactly what happens after you send the form.

01

You send a request

Tell us the lane, a time window that suits you, and one or two lines about the problem.

02

We offer times

Reception replies by email with the open slots that match your window, usually the same working day.

03

Pre-visit notes

You receive a short note on anything to stop, bring or prepare before the appointment.

04

Your consultation

Examination, any on-site testing, and a written plan you leave the room holding.

05

Follow-up

Results are explained, not just sent. We book the review before you need to chase it.

Rooms & facilities

A building that is easy to move through

Level access throughout, wide doorways to every consulting room, and a quiet bay for anyone who finds waiting areas difficult.

Daylit clinic corridor with pale walls leading to consulting room doors
Daylit corridor — step-free access to all six consulting rooms
Gloved hands preparing sterile instruments on a clean treatment tray
Treatment room — prepared for each minor procedure list

Hearing loop at reception, adjustable examination couches in every room, and a baby-change bench beside the accessible washroom. Tell us on the form if you need extra time or a ground-floor room and we will hold one.

Clinicians

Who you will see

A small team by design — you keep the same clinician through a course of care wherever the diary allows.

Dr Marisol Hale

General practice & long-term conditions

Leads the family medicine lane and the medicines review clinic. Particular interest in simplifying complicated prescription lists.

Dr Tobias Renn

Respiratory & allergy

Runs spirometry and the winter assessment clinics. Writes every action plan with the patient in the room rather than afterwards.

Nurse Practitioner Ada Kelso

Skin clinic & vaccination

Handles mole mapping, minor procedures and the Saturday immunisation list, including household catch-up schedules.

Questions

Practical answers

Do I need a referral to be seen?
No. Every lane accepts direct requests. A referral letter is useful if you have one, because it saves repeating your history, but it is never a condition of being seen.
Can you take over my records from another practice?
Yes. Once you are registered we request a records transfer with your written consent. Transfers typically complete within a few weeks, so bring a summary or medicines list to your first appointment in the meantime.
Do you see children?
Children are seen in the family medicine and vaccination lanes. Please book the child's own appointment rather than adding them to an adult slot, so there is proper time for weight, growth and immunisation checks.
When do I find out what a visit will cost?
Before you confirm. The appointment offer email lists the slot length and the fee for that lane, including any likely on-site testing. Nothing is added on the day without being discussed with you first.
What if I need extra time or accessibility support?
Say so in the notes field. We can hold a double slot, reserve a ground-floor room, allow space for a wheelchair or assistance dog, and arrange a quiet bay instead of the main waiting area.
How do I change or cancel an appointment?
Reply to your confirmation email. Twenty-four hours' notice lets us offer the slot to someone on the short-notice list, which is how the same-week availability keeps working for everyone.

Appointments

Request an appointment

One short form. Reception replies by email with the available times that fit your window — normally the same working day.

Please mention any access needs or if you would prefer a longer slot.

Good to know

  • This is a request, not a booking. The appointment is confirmed once you accept one of the offered times.
  • Keep clinical detail brief. A short summary is enough — the full history belongs in the room.
  • Household requests welcome. Mention how many people and we will group the slots where possible.

If the problem is urgent or worsening quickly, use your local urgent care service rather than waiting for a reply to this form.
